Which Cinnamon Brands Have Lead? The Recall List Just Grew Again (2026)

Which Cinnamon Brands Have Lead? The Recall List Just Grew Again (2026)

October 10, 2026

The short answer

You shake cinnamon on your oatmeal every morning. Now it is pie season, and that jar is working hard.

On September 28, 2026, a federal lead alert added Lior Gourmet Spices Ground Cinnamon. Maryland's health department tested it and found lead. Lior is the newest of 24 brands named in these alerts since March 2024. Marcum, Supreme Tradition, Swad and El Chilar are on the list too.

If one of those names is in your cupboard, throw it out. The full list is below.

What did Maryland find in Lior cinnamon?

Quick answer: lead, in one lot shipped to stores in six states over almost ten months.

The oatmeal every morning, the shake on your coffee, the cider on a Sunday, the November pies. One plastic jar is in all of it.

You want your oatmeal to taste like fall. Nothing wrong with wanting that. The problem is the jar Galil Importing Corp sent to the stores.

On September 24, 2026, Galil recalled Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning. Its notice says a sample "collected and analyzed by Maryland Department of Health" found high lead.

The Houston Chronicle reported it went to stores in six states, Texas among them. It shipped from November 18, 2025 to September 7, 2026.

That is almost ten months of jars going out to stores. Now Galil says it has added "enhanced testing."

By Galil's own notice, it was Maryland's lab that caught it.

Which other cinnamon brands are on the lead list?

Quick answer: 23 more, and two of them sold at Dollar Tree and Save A Lot.

The first alert came from the Food and Drug Administration on March 6, 2024. It named six brands from discount stores, with lead from 2.03 to 3.4 parts per million.

Two of those jars came from Colonna Brothers of New Jersey. Marcum sold at Save A Lot. Supreme Tradition sold at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar.

On July 30, 2024, Colonna recalled more lots of both. Same two jars, pulled twice in five months.

Here is every brand on the three alerts.

Added in 2026: Lior.

Added in 2025: Lucky Foods, Venzu Traders, DEVI, BaiLiFeng, Roshni, HAETAE, Durra, Wise Wife and Jiva Organics.

Named in 2024: Marcum, Supreme Tradition, Swad, El Chilar, La Fiesta, MK, El Servidor, Asli, Super Brand, ALB Flavor, Shahzada, Spice Class, La Frontera and Compania Indillor Orientale.

The top number came from one El Servidor jar in New York. It tested at 20 parts per million.

Most listings give a lot code or a best-by date. I would not hunt for it. I would throw the jar out.

How long can a bad jar sit in your cupboard?

Quick answer: a long time. The alert warns these jars have "a long shelf life."

Cinnamon is not like milk. You buy one jar and it lasts.

The alert puts it plainly: "These products have a long shelf life. Consumers should check their homes and discard these products."

So a jar you bought in 2024 can still be sitting by your stove.

Lead, the metal Maryland's lab found

You may not feel a small dose at all. Galil's notice says a higher lead number in your blood work "may be the only apparent sign."

Colonna's notice ties long-term lead in adults to kidney trouble, high blood pressure, and problems with thinking.

The alert warns about lead in your food over "months to years." And so the jar you reach for every morning is the one that counts. One pie a year is one thing. A shake on your oatmeal every day is another.

Aren't these just small brands and tiny amounts?

Quick answer: small brands, yes, and far below the 2023 applesauce recall. The alerts still call these elevated levels of lead.

Here is the part you are probably thinking. Most of these are small labels, and the amounts are tiny.

That is fair, and I am not going to pretend otherwise.

All three alerts compare these jars to the 2023 cinnamon applesauce recall. That cinnamon held 2,270 to 5,110 parts per million. These jars run from 2.03 to 20.

Galil says no illnesses have been reported.

And Colonna Brothers says it "has not violated any Federal laws" on lead in spice.

Here is why I would still throw the jar out.

Not one of these jars warned you. Galil and Colonna both pulled jars after someone else tested them.

And so the companies selling it were not the ones who caught it. Your next jar can come from someone who will.

Where do you get cinnamon you can trust?

Quick answer: from a person you can look in the eye and ask where it grew.

Cinnamon is tree bark. It does not grow on a farm down the road. But the person who sells it to you can live down the road.

Find a local farm with a stand at your farmers market. Get to know the farmer. Ask where their cinnamon sticks were grown and who packed them. Ask if they test for lead, and if they will show you.

If they cannot answer, keep walking. A farmer who is proud of it will tell you.

Buy the whole sticks and grate them yourself. A small grater does it in a minute.

Shannon's Advice

Straight talk from Shannon

I do not call them grocery stores. They are poison centers meant to do you and your family harm. It is not just the brands who are doing the harm, it is the stores themselves. They allow these toxic products on their shelves. People are sick and dying. This is a very serious matter. How can we ever trust them again?

We can't trust them. That is where Switch to America comes in. We are a new supply chain, built on family values, trust and affordability.

You do not have to take my word for it. The proof is in my blog posts, the recalls, the lawsuits and the fines, and in the app I built called The Family Home Toxic Scorecard. Also, inside my Switch Circle private community, we talk about real solutions.

Women come to me exhausted, in pain, stressed out, and on a list of prescriptions they never wanted. I have spent over 20 years helping women get off prescription medications. I help families reclaim their health.

We cannot stop them. I have stopped expecting to. However, we can stop walking into their stores. We are linking arms and together taking our control back. Control of our health and our finances.

The receipts

Who do you become?

You become the one who knows who sold you your cinnamon.

It is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The apple pie is out of the oven, and the kitchen is warm.

You grate a cinnamon stick over the top, slowly, and the whole room smells like it. There is no jar on the counter to wonder about.

You bought those sticks from someone who told you where they grew. It took one Saturday at the market.

What else do people ask?

Which cinnamon brands have lead in them?

Twenty-four brands have been named in federal lead alerts since March 2024. The newest is Lior Gourmet Spices, added September 28, 2026. Marcum, Supreme Tradition, Swad and El Chilar are on the list too.

Is every jar of Lior cinnamon recalled?

No. Galil recalled one lot, GAP11304, in a 90 gram clear plastic jar. I would not keep any Lior cinnamon either way.

If my cinnamon is not on the list, is it safe?

The list only covers jars that labs picked up and tested. It is not every jar on the shelf. For your next jar, buy from someone who can tell you where it grew.

We have used cinnamon every day for years and we feel fine. Why switch?

That counts for something. But Galil's own notice says a higher lead number in your blood work may be the only sign. You get to be the one who checked the cupboard.
